Terms and Conditions

1. Definitions and Interpretations in these conditions.

(a) The "College" shall mean Purley Language College Ltd, 34 Brighton Road, Purley, Surrey, CR8 3AD, United Kingdom

(b) The "student" or "students" shall mean the person in whose name the booking is made and shall include the person or persons on whose behalf the same is made

(c) "Lessons", "classes" and "course" shall include face-to-face as well as online teaching

These terms and conditions apply to all services provided by Purley Language College Ltd.

2. Enrolment / Registration

(a) Application forms must be fully completed

(b) Emergency contact numbers, home and UK addresses must be current and obtainable. It is the student's responsibility to inform the College of any changes to these

(c) A copy of your passport must be sent to info@purleyschool.co.uk

(d) Parents/Guardians of students aged 17 and under must send a completed parental consent form

3. Payment

(a) A place at the College is only guaranteed once we have received your full payment

(b) A non-refundable £80 registration fee is payable by all students

(c) Students requiring a Letter of Sponsorship (for their visa application) from the College must pay a non-refundable £80 registration fee and a non-refundable £50 visa letter fee. They must also pay at least half of their tuition and accommodation fees (if applicable) when booking

(d) For courses of less than 6 months, full fees are payable in advance

(e) The balance of tuition fees and accommodation fees (if applicable), must be paid at least 4 weeks in advance of the commencement date of the course or accommodation

(f) If making a booking with less than 4 weeks before the commencement date of the course or accommodation, the full fees are payable immediately

(g) Tuition fees do not include books, external exam fees and some social programme activities

(h) All fees are payable in pounds sterling

4. Cancellations and Refunds

(a)Refunds for cancellations by students will only be issued if written notice is given to the College at least two weeks (14 days) prior to original course commencement date and in the following circumstances:

  • Visa rejection. The Embassy Letter of Refusal must be sent to the College to apply for the refund. Please allow up to 8 weeks for processing visa refunds. The registration fee, visa letter fee and accommodation finding fee (if applicable) are NOT refundable
  • Exceptional personal circumstances at the discretion of the College Principal

(b) The College will retain £200 for processing refunds and all bank charges must be paid by the student. In all cases contact the College at the earliest opportunity as we may be able to help in other ways such as deferred start dates

(c) Refund requests will not be accepted more than 3 months after payment has been received by the College

(d) If you miss a class you will not get a refund

(e) If you miss a class you cannot carry the class forward to a future date

(f) In the case of private lessons, if you need to change the time of a class or cancel a class for any reason, you must give 48 hours notice or we will charge you the full amount

(g) Payments made by a student cannot be transferred to another student or another course

(h) If you decide to leave your course early, your tuition fees and accommodation fees are non-refundable under any circumstances

(i) In the case of misconduct, eg persistently breaking the College rules, or criminal offences, the College reserves the right to discipline or expel any student. No refund of fees will be made. The disciplinary procedure is available in full in our policies

(j) The student has the right to cancel within 14 days of the initial online application and a full refund (minus the non-refundable fees) will be issued - on the basis that the course is not in commencement.

5. Visas

(a) Attendance: Students having been granted a student visa must report to College on the due date and then attend at least 15 hours tuition per week, be punctual, show effort by completing homework and classwork tasks on time and make satisfactory progress

(b) Students failing to comply with Visa Regulations will be expelled and reported to the UK Border Agency

(c) In the event of breach of immigration rules and expulsion no certificate will be awarded

(d) It is the student's responsibility to ensure that they have the correct visa type to study in the UK

6. Accommodation

(a) Accommodation is arranged by the College

(b) A non-refundable £50 finding fee applies

(c) All accommodation payments must be made through the College

(d) Accommodation fees must be paid in full at least 4 weeks prior to the commencement date

(e) Accommodation will be confirmed when full payment is made

(f) Cancellation of accommodation: At least 2 weeks advance notice must be given to cancel accommodation either prior to arrival or when in residence. If less than 2 weeks notice is given then you will be liable for paying up to 2 weeks of the accommodation fees

(g) Students are expected to abide by the Rules and Regulations Governing Homestay Accommodation. A copy of these will be given to the student on arrival

(h) If you decide to take a holiday during your stay, you will still be charged the full rate

(i) If you book your own accommodation, you must provide the College with the address and contact telephone number

(j) Unaccompanied students aged 17 and under must choose full board homestay accommodation

(k) Shared room prices are only available for two students travelling together. Shared room prices are not available to individual / single student applicants

7. College Policies

8. General

(a) The minimum student age is 8 years old

(b) Children will not be put in a class with adults, or children of a vastly different age

(c) The minimum age for adult classes is 16, and explicit consent is required from the parents of 16 or 17 year olds in order to join adult classes

(d) The maximum class size is 15 students

(e) The College rules and disciplinary procedure are contained in the student handbook The student handbook is available on request

(f) Students should always read all notices displayed on the main notice board

(g) Most courses are available to start any Monday that the College is open.

(h) The school closes for the final two weeks in December and the first week in January, plus all UK bank holidays

(i) No fee reduction is made for weeks containing a bank holiday

(j) The College's social activities programme contains either free or low cost activities. The number of organised social activities will vary according to the time of year with more available in summer and fewer in winter. See the notice boards for latest details.

(k) On courses of every type the College will try to follow the agreed programme but reserves the right to substitute entrances or activities with same or similar-priced entrances or activities, for example when tickets are sold out or for other reasons. The College also reserves the right to change the sequence, timings and duration of the entrances, activities, pickups/dropoffs, meetings or other events for logistical or other reasons, for example weather conditions, transport issues or homestay provider availability.

(l) The College reserves the right to deliver lessons remotely, eg via an online learning platform, if face to face lessons are not possible or not advisable, eg for reasons of health or safety.

(m) In all cases the decision of the Directors will be final and binding on all students and teachers.

9. Groups

(a) A group should consist of 10 or more students

(b) All group prices quoted are NET prices

(c) A group booking must be made at least 12 weeks prior to the commencement date of the course or accommodation

(d) A non-refundable deposit payment of 20% of the total invoice fees are payable immediately. Your group booking will be confirmed only once the entire deposit is received

(e) The remaining balance must be paid no later than 4 weeks prior to arrival

(f) If you decide to cancel your group booking, this must be done in writing by email to info@purleyschool.co.uk, the following refund terms apply to all group bookings:

(g) Cancellation received 4 weeks (28 days) or more before the start date of the course, 80% of the fees will be refunded

(h) Cancellation received 2 weeks (14 days) or more before the start date of the course, 50% of the fees will be refunded

(i) Cancellation received less than 2 weeks before the start date of the course, no fees will be refunded

10. Insurance

(a) Students are strongly advised to purchase insurance before leaving their own country

(b) This insurance should cover cancellation and curtailments, course fees, medical expenses, personal belongings cover, money, personal liability and personal injury

(c) Students staying with a homestay provider should make sure that their insurance will cover any accidental damage to the property or possessions of the homestay provider

(d) The College is not responsible for any problems arising from lack of appropriate insurance on the student's part

11. Photographs

(a) The College reserves the right to use photographs, videos, testimonials, student work and other materials taken or produced during College activities for marketing or other purposes including social media and the college website

(b) The copyright to all of the above shall belong to the College

(c) If you do not want photos of the student to be used in the above, you must advise the College in writing via info@purleyschool.co.uk

12. Complaints

The College takes all complaints very seriously. If you have a complaint you should take the following steps:

1. Speak to someone in school who can if necessary pass on the complaint to the right person.

2. If the complaint can not be resolved in this way, you can write to the Principal at jan@purleyschool.co.uk or fill in our complaints form

3. We aim to respond within 48 hours. Some complaints may take longer to resolve, especially if they are very serious and require further investigation

4. If you are still not happy with the response from the College, you can follow the English UK complaints procedure detailed in a document on their website here

13. Liability

(a) The College and its staff and representatives will not be liable for nor accept responsibility for loss of property, damages of property or injury to persons howsoever caused except where such liability is imposed under British (UK) law

(b) The College does not accept liability for losses or additional expenses you might have to pay because of cancellations or delays to your travel services

(c) The College will not be liable in the event that any service contracted to be supplied by the College becomes impossible to supply for any reason or any cause outside of the control of the College

(d) Students have to pay for any damage they cause at their accommodation. The College does not accept liability for any damages caused

We strongly advise all students to take out insurance before leaving their home country

14. Force Majeure

(a) The College shall not be responsible for any causes or events outside our reasonable control

(b) Such causes and events shall include but not be limited to, act of government, war, threat of war, riot, civil strife, industrial dispute, terrorist activity, natural or nuclear disaster, infectious diseases, unusually adverse weather conditions

(c) The College shall not be responsible for any costs incurred by or on behalf of the student as a result of any such cause

(d) Refunds will not be made under circumstances where the College is not liable for loss of tuition or other services

15. Changes to the Terms and Conditions

(a) The College reserves the right to amend or alter its terms and conditions without providing further notice

(b) In such cases, any newer version automatically replaces a previous version

(c) By submitting an application, or paying a deposit or full fees, you have read, understood and agreed to the all of the College's terms and conditions
